Believe it or not but if you are having a brand memory plugged into your computer, then there is only 2% to 3% chance that you’ll lose your memory stick and need to buy a new one. I’m only saying because RAM actually doesn’t get faulty easily; It just only needs proper cleaning, to make a proper physical connection between the motherboard to work properly. Most of the times, just because of long use or surviving under the moisture condition can create some corrosion on all the metal surface of the RAM stick which leads to the connection problem, Results; No display, BSOD, sudden restarts, etc. And just like we engineer says, in order to run properly, our computer must need to be clean time to time, and cleaning a ram quarterly is sufficient to make your ram’s life longer. #So, Let’s See How to Ram Stick In a Proper Way;
Step 1 – Open Your Desktop Or Laptop Casing: The first thing you’ll need to do is to make sure that your laptop or desktop is completely turned off (and not sleep or hibernated), and not just this, you’ll also need to unplug the power adapter or power cord and put the battery out from your laptop if you’re using it. Step 2 – Unclip the RAM: To clean a RAM properly, you’ll definitely need to unclip it from its slot and clean out every dust from it by using a soft paintbrush. Suggested Links:

Step 3 – Cleaning Gold Contacts: Now put your RAM on a towel and starts to rub the pencil eraser horizontally on the gold contacts, nicely and correctly, without damaging any components. And yes, it always better to use a soft rubber eraser for the ram’s safety. Step 4 – Ram Upper Body Cleaning: When you’ve done with the above step then it’s time to clean the RAM’s upper body. We are using 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the dirt and sticky carbon particles from it. Drop some amount of alcohol on the ram and try to clean it by the use of cotton buds. And that’s it!!! I only suggest you to use 90% or 90%+ Isopropyl alcohol for cleaning because it’s non-conductive and fully safe to use. Suggested Link: How to Repair a Dead RAM Stick (Random Access Memory)?

I’d like to personally thank you for posting your blog about cleaning the memory stick with an eraser. I had two and then another two original Samsung 4gb 1600mhz memory sticks stop working in my system. Although I do clean inside the system every 3 or 4 months I failed to remove the memory and clean it. I always thought it would be fine. After using a plain white colour eraser and rubbering horizontally to clean as you mentioned, all four memory sticks now work in my system again. I appreciate your posting and thank you for your tips. Kind regards, Andy Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email.
